How to cue in your headphones on the DDJ-FLX4
Cueing means listening to the next track in your headphones while the room hears the one that's playing. It's what lets you beatmatch without anyone hearing you do it.
Set it up
- Plug your headphones into the headphone socket on the front of the FLX4.
- Turn the headphone LEVEL down before you put them on, then bring it up.
- Turn the headphone MIX knob fully to the cue side, so you only hear the channels you've cued.
- Press the headphone CUE button on the channel you want to hear.
Check your sound output
Headphone cueing needs the FLX4 itself to be the sound output, not your laptop's speakers or Bluetooth. Plug speakers into the FLX4's master output so the room and your headphones both come from the controller.
Using it in a mix
Keep the incoming channel's fader down and its CUE button on. Play it, match its tempo and line up its beats while only you can hear it. When it's locked in, bring the fader up.
Many DJs keep one ear on the headphones and one off, so they hear the cued track and the room at once.
